Family Literacy Day

Friday, January 25th is Family Literacy Day.  This initiative was created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999.  It is held each year on January 27th to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy activities as a family.  Taking time every day to read or do a literacy activity with your child is crucial to their development.

At Amherst Cove we are celebrating Family Literacy Day.  We are inviting all our students to share their love of reading in their classrooms by sharing a book they love.  When they do so they will receive a ballot to win one of eighteen Indigo Gift Cards.  The gift cards were purchased with monies from a generous donation made to our school by McLellan Brennan Barristers.  These gifts will allow our students to continue with their love of reading by purchasing a new book to enjoy.

We have also invited parents and guests to visit our classrooms to share a favorite book.  Ron Taweel, Director of Human Resources from the Western School Board, will be here to read.  Parents have been invited to our classrooms as well. We hope to have a wonderful day on Friday reading and sharing our favorite books.
